What Estepona is like.
Estepona has kept its character while the coast around it changed. The old town is a grid of white streets with flower pots on every wall and murals on the gable ends, and it is lived in, not a museum. The seafront is a long promenade with the beach of La Rada on one side and cafés on the other, and the port at the western end has the fish restaurants and the Sunday market.
East of the town the New Golden Mile runs towards Marbella: a string of newer apartment communities, golf courses and beach clubs between the motorway and the sea. Prices there are below Marbella for a similar home, which is why many buyers from the UK end up here.
Where to look in Estepona
- The old town and centre
Apartments and townhouses in the streets behind the seafront. Walk to everything.
- The port and Seghers
West of the centre: apartments near the marina and the beach, with a quieter feel.
- The New Golden Mile
Cancelada, Bel Air, Atalaya, Selwo and Benamara: communities with pools and gardens, most of them a short walk from a beach.
- Estepona Golf and Valle Romano
Golf communities west of the town, with views over the course and the sea.
The practical bits
- Málaga airport
- About fifty-five minutes by road on the motorway.
- Train
- No. Buses along the coast, and a car for most things outside the centre.
- Beaches
- La Rada in town, El Cristo in its own cove, and a run of beaches along the New Golden Mile.
- Golf
- Estepona Golf, Valle Romano, Atalaya, El Paraíso and La Resina, all within fifteen minutes.
- Schools and health
- An international school in the town. A public hospital opened in Estepona in recent years.
Who buys here
People moving out for good who want a Spanish town rather than a resort, families, and buyers who want Marbella on the doorstep without paying Marbella prices.
