What Mijas Costa is like.
Mijas Costa is where a great many buyers from the UK end up, and it is easy to see why. It is a run of beaches and urbanisations between Fuengirola and Marbella, with La Cala de Mijas as its town: a former fishing village that has grown into a place with a boulevard, a beach, a Saturday market and a good choice of restaurants.
Either side of La Cala are the big communities, Calahonda and Riviera del Sol among them, built for the sun and the pool rather than for Spanish town life. Prices are below Marbella, the beaches are long, and the golf courses are everywhere. A car is useful, though the coast bus runs the length of it.
Where to look in Mijas Costa
- La Cala de Mijas
The town: apartments and townhouses close to the beach, the boulevard and the market. The best place here to live without a car.
- Calahonda and Riviera del Sol
Large established urbanisations with every kind of home, a strong community from the UK, and their own shops and bars.
- Miraflores and El Chaparral
Golf-side communities among the pines, a short walk or drive from the beach.
- La Cala Golf and Calanova
Resort communities inland with views over the courses and the sea.
