What San Roque is like.
Sotogrande is unlike the rest of the coast. It is a planned estate of wide avenues, big plots and low-rise homes around a marina, a river, several of Spain's best golf courses and the polo grounds that host the summer tournaments. It is green, spacious and quiet, with an international school at its heart and a community that is more settled than touristic.
Around it the municipality has more: Torreguadiaro, a fishing village with a beach and bars, Pueblo Nuevo with the shops, Alcaidesa with its links golf and long beach, and San Roque town itself inland. Gibraltar, twenty minutes away, has the airport with direct UK flights and the supermarkets from home.
